Shameik Moore, Ashton Sanders, and more join Hulu’s Wu-Tang Clan series

The next Hulu series, Wu-Tang: an American saga based on New York rap group Wu-Tang Clan, began their casting with the addition of Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verseis Shameik Moore, Moonlightby Ashton Sanders, Messiahby Siddiq Saunderson, Ballet flats‘Zolée Griggs, Get out‘s Erika Alexander and Powerby Marcus Callender, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Inspired by books The Wu-Tang manual and its sequel Wu’s Tao, both written by band frontman RZA, the series will take place at the height of New York City’s crack epidemic of the 90s and will follow the group’s formation from a group of young black men who pass through ‘a life of crime to one of the most successful musical groups in American history, having sold 40 million albums worldwide and released five gold and platinum albums.

Co-created by RZA and Alex Tse (Superfly), the series will be produced by Brian Grazer at Imagine Entertainment, both known for working on popular musical dramas. 8 miles vaguely recounting the life of Eminem (who also starred in the film) and Empire with Terrence Howard and Taraji P. Henson.

Sanders is committed to playing RZA-based Bobby Diggs, who grew up on a farm with his uncle and toughened up living on the streets in order to support his family, but still has a creative and thoughtful heart that yearns to make music. Moore is set to play Sha Rader, who grew up on the streets and is a gunner for a drug dealer, but finds himself questioning his orders as he gets closer to Bobby. Saunderson will play 19-year-old Ghostface Killah-based Dennis “D-Love” Coles, who is Bobby’s brother’s right-hand man in the drug trade and will do anything to protect his family and friends.

Callender is committed to the role of Power Grant, the leader of the Park Hill criminal organization and rival to Bobby’s brother’s gang in Stapleton. Griggs is expected to play the role of Shurrie, who, when not running the house of three other siblings and focusing on school, is secretly in a relationship with D-Love. Alexander will play Linda, Shurrie’s mother who works in a spare rib shop after ditching her abusive husband and struggles to balance his hectic work life with his increasingly strained relationship with her children.

The clan consists of RZA, GZA, Method Man, Raekwon, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, U-God, Masta Killa, Cappadonna and Ol ‘Dirty Bastard, who died in 2004 from a drug overdose. The Killas, Deck, GZA and The Estate of Ol ‘Dirty Bastard will serve as consultant producers on the series.
